A wonderful vintage jewelry set featuring a matching bracelet and pendant necklace made with genuine Morpho butterfly wings. Each domed station features a tiny tropical landscape with palm trees, birds and a setting sun, and is displayed against the brilliant iridescent blue of the butterfly wing.
Morpho butterfly wings produce their vivid color through structural iridescence, shifting from icy silver and turquoise to electric blue and violet as they catch the light. Butterfly wing jewelry became fashionable during the Art Deco period and continued to be produced into the mid century. This matching set likely dates to the 1940s - 1950s and is set in silver tone metal with decorative scalloped borders.
