A very sparkly pair of vintage screw back earrings dating to approximately the 1930s–1940s, set with colorful faceted Czech iris glass in 835 silver.
Each earring features five round faceted glass stones arranged in a gentle curve, designed to follow the ear. The clear glass is streaked with vivid pink, blue and green, creating the distinctive rainbow effect for which iris glass is known.
Developed by Bohemian and Czech glassmakers in the early twentieth century, iris glass was created to imitate the flashes of color seen within natural iris quartz. Each stone has its own arrangement of color, giving this pair of earrings a true, gemstone-like appearance.
