Antique Amethyst Cabochon Ring in Sterling Silver
This ornate early 20th century ring features a rich purple amethyst cabochon, set in sterling silver. The amethyst has an unusual high-domed, subtly pointed profile, and rises prominently above the finger. The cabochon is held by broad silver prongs and is surrounded by decorative openwork details, applied silver beads, and stylized bow motifs. This ring likely dates to the 1920s, and its design reflects the transition between the organic ornamentation of the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau movements and the symmetry of the Art Deco period.
A small, unknown maker's mark, most likely European, is stamped on the exterior of the shank and reads R/P inside a diamond-shaped cartouche.
* One small silver element connecting the decorative shoulder to the shank is missing, visible upon close inspection; the ring remains intact and wearable. Please refer to photographs for details.
